Article III

Standing Committees


 
 
 
 
Section 1.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

There shall be the following standing committees appointed by the President and subject to the approval of the Executive Board: morale, public relations, grievance, meet and discuss, legislative, political action, district council, and collective bargaining council.  The negotiation committee shall be by elections.  The membership committee shall consist of the building representatives.

Each standing committee shall meet as needed and may hold special meetings at the call of the chairman.

Chairmen shall report as necessary.  These reports will become a part of the continuing record in the Association files.  Each appointed standing committee would elect one member to be held over the following year.

Section 2.  Membership  
 
 
 
The membership committee shall consist of the building representatives.  The committee shall conduct local, state, and national enrollment among non-members.  It shall inform members of policies, programs, and accomplishments of the Association.
Section 3.  Legislative, 
                Political Action, 
                and Collective 
                Bargaining 
                Committees
These committees shall consist of one or more representatives from the school unit.  The committee shall keep membership informed of educationally related legislation and coordinate association lobbying efforts.
 
Section 4.  Public Relations
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The public relations committee shall consist of three or more members.  The committee shall be charged with the duty of informing the membership of school activities and membership news: local, state, and national.  The committee shall direct activities toward improving understanding, goodwill, and confidence between citizens of the community and the school.  This committee shall organize and oversee the following projects: (1) newspaper publications, (2) newsletter, (3) website.
Section 5.  Grievance
 
 
 
The grievance committee shall consist of one representative unit and shall serve one year terms.  It shall be the duty of this committee to represent the teachers on any grievance pertaining to any contract violation.
Section 6.  Negotiations
 
 
 
The negotiating committee shall consist of one representative unit and shall serve one year terms.  It shall be the duty of this committee to represent the teachers on any grievance pertaining to any contract violation.
Section 7.  Meet and Discuss
 
 
 
 
 
 
The Meet and Discuss Committee shall consist of two representatives for each school unit and shall serve one year terms.  It shall be the duty of this committee to meet and discuss non-contractual problems of interest to the membership.  The committee will be empowered to make proposals, counter-proposals and compromised in the process of reaching an agreement.
Section 8. Morale

The morale committee shall send flowers in the event of death in the immediate family or any member, or serious illness when submitted by the building representative.  This committee will also be responsible for American Education Week and National Teacher Day.  This committee shall consist of one member per school unit.
